

Dubbel Dutch hotel opens new coffee shop and cocktail lounge
The new Gülden Room in the Dubbel Dutch hotel, 817 N. Marshall St., is both a cocktail lounge and coffee shop, operated by F Street Hospitality. The related F Street Dubbel LLC bought the 17-room boutique hotel in summer, two years after it opened.
The Gülden Room’s cocktails feature house-made syrups, gold-flake garnishes, and wood-smoked old fashioneds. The bar also serves Gulden Draak ale and other Belgian and Dutch products.
Noble Catering and Events is providing snacks, such as togarashi-spiced popcorn, sweet and savory charcuterie boards, and Belgian chocolate fudge cake. The Gülden Room is open 4 to 10 pm Thursday through Saturday, and the coffee bar, featuring Space Time Coffee, is open from 7 am to 2 pm daily. Visit www.thedubbeldutch.com

Cookie eating contest
The Starling, 102 N. Water St., will be the site of a cookie-eating contest by BB Cakes from 1 to 5 pm Nov. 6. Ten contestants have already been chosen, but the public is invited to watch the event at 4 pm
BB Cakes makes gourmet half-pound cookies, each weighing 8 to 9.5 ounces, and the contestants will have 5 minutes to eat as many of the half-pound chocolate chip cookies as they can, with J Matt from TikTok emceeing the contest.
The afternoon event will include wood-fired pizza from Flour Girl & Flame, treats from Everyone’s Ice Cream, and live music from the Wire & Nail band. BB Cakes cookies are sold at area markets and local events. For a list of where the cookies can be found, visit bbcakesmke.com.

Happy hour with cocktail writers
Bryant’s Cocktail Lounge, 1579 S. Ninth St. is teaming up with Boswell Book Co. to host two cocktail authors in November.
Mix and mingle with author Robert Simonson, a New York Times cocktail and spirits writer and Wisconsin native, on Nov. 19 for a discussion of “Modern Classic Cocktails.” Learn about the origin of specific cocktails, the recipes, and the revival and innovation of the cocktail culture. The ticket price is $42.20, which includes one signed book, one cocktail, tip and sales tax; a ticketing fee of $1.50 is added to each order. Seating and drink service begins at 5 p.m.; the presentation is at 6 pm, followed by a discussion and book signing.
Bestselling author and former Wisconsinite André Darlington will offer advice on bar bites and cocktail pairings during his visit to Bryant’s on Nov. 22. His book “Bar Menu” is a cocktail-hour cookbook offering drink ideas with food recipes for entertaining at home. The ticket price is $47.47, which includes one signed book, one special cocktail, tip and sales tax; a ticketing fee of $1.50 is added to each order. Seating and drink service start at 7 pm; the presentation is at 8 pm, followed by a discussion and book signing.

Beer brandy debut
Central Standard’s North Brandy is a new beer brandy made in collaboration with Hofbräu München. The brandy is part of the distillery’s Brewmasters Brandy Series and uses Hofbräu’s Doppelbock seasonal special Hofbräu Delicator, resulting in a brandy with flavor notes of dark chocolate, cherry and dried fruit.

Think pink and pizza in October
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Saz’s State House at 5539 W. State St. will donate a portion of revenue from select food and drink items to ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis.
The Buy a Rack, Save a Rack menu includes: the Pink Ribbon Pretzel, an 8-ounce salted Milwaukee Pretzel Co. pretzel served with root beer mustard, jalapeño horseradish cheese sauce and raspberry cream cheese; the Raspberry Absolut Limeade made with vodka, raspberry lemonade and Sierra Mist; and a full rack of ribs.
