Video Games and Esports Expo Playcon returns to Ta' Qali for the second edition

A four-day event encompassing all things gaming will return to Ta’ Qali for its second edition.

Playcon is all about gaming, game development, and esports, and will be hosted at MFCC in Ta’ Qali from November 3-6.

Organized by the GMR, with support from Gaming Malta and the Ministry of Economy, EU Funds and Lands, Playcon will span 5,000 square meters of interactive and educational space where industry experts will showcase the best of Malta has to offer.

Playcon will be an opportunity for students to learn more about the opportunities and careers available in the game.

Twenty local and international companies that develop video games in our country will exhibit their work.

The exhibition will continue to promote the island as a destination for foreign investment in these digital sectors.

International players such as Ubisoft, Keywords Studios, Exient and ESL will be part of this year’s edition of Playcon, these companies are considered among the best video game development companies as well as in international esports competitions.

Customers will have the opportunity to play the games developed by these companies and also participate in a number of competitions that will be running throughout.

Economy Minister Silvio Schembri hosts the second edition of Playcon

A Games Dev and Esports Summit will be organized on Thursday, November 3, where industry stakeholders will come together to share their knowledge and work experiences locally and internationally.

With over 40 speakers, the summit will provide a networking opportunity for those interested in researching in these sectors.

More than 6,000 elementary and high school students are expected to attend Playcon on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 in the morning.

Students will be invited to participate in a number of interactive workshops while interacting with a number of activities that will take place in the field.

Educational information will be shared on the esports industry, competition, job opportunities and emerging technologies. One can also understand how to maintain a sustainable balance between recreational play and professional competition.

A number of esports competitions are also set to take place during the festival, including popular games such as Fortnite, Tekken and Sim Racing, with some amazing prizes up for grabs.

A number of internationally renowned Tekken experts are expected, including Korean JeonDding, American Anakin and Pakistani player Arslan.

Parents will also be entertained during the exhibition, with an incredible opportunity to interact with their children in a number of dedicated special play areas which will include games such as Fortnite, Tekken, FIFA, Roblox, Sim Racing, CS: GO, Rainbow Six and Rocket League.

Playcon will be held from Thursday November 3 to Sunday November 6, 2022. Admission will be free for all customers.
